The way Petra is formed - people walk into the ruins, essentially a giant passage of rock formations- it takes about 3 hours to get to the Monastery which is the end of the walk.
Once you get to the end you are required to walk back the way you came and view the formations in a different perspective which takes about another 3 or so hours.
